Hello from New York! As you may know, I’m spending July travelling the US. I’m part American and have been to the states every couple of years since I was a toddler, but not for quite as long a trip as this one will be. I decided to start in New York City; even without the cheap flights and direct air route it’s one of my favourite places in the world. This is about the 5th or 6th time I’ve been to New York over the years.
These pictures were mostly taken around the High Line and surrounding area. The High Line is a really lovely development which was originally a central railroad and has been repurposed into a kind of extended garden and walkway, which goes all the way through Chelsea up to the Meatpacking District. It’s thunderstorm season in New York at the moment which means it’s incredibly hot, both day and night but there is the perpetual threat of these furious downpours, accompanied by apocalyptic purple skies, crackling lightning and rolling thunder. It’s all a lot more dramatic than the shades of grey and drizzle we are accustomed to in London though and I am secretly a big fan of inclement weather (Stranger Than Fiction, anyone?) although I could probably do with remembering my umbrella next time…
This is so cool! I’d love to visit NY (and a lot of America!) – I’m so jealous! Have a wonderful trip and I can’t wait to see more pics!

Wow! I love seeing NY in this moody weather. Something you really don’t see enough (unless of course you live there!!). Can’t wait to see more photographs of your travels.

It looks lovely! I agree with you on the weather front – I much prefer extreme snow or rain to the drenching sogginess we have usually.

It’s so pretty! I went to New York when I was 18, but I never discovered this cute strip of garden. It looks very tranquil, if rainy. I love dramatic weather too! I’d rather be in a thunderstorm than a grey cloudy day. xx

It’s quite new I think, they are still developing one part of it! It wasn’t there when I went last either. :) X
