I’m terrible at relaxing. I almost never “switch off” and I function at quite a high level most of the time; numerous projects going on in my head, multi-tasking different jobs and constantly planning my time. If I’m not working then I’m partying or out seeing friends – and if I’m not doing that, I’m asleep.

Friends have told me repeatedly I need to find some sort of relaxing activity to unwind with, and just a couple of weeks ago I was contacted by Ocean Loans to see if I wanted t o take arelaxing day off. My initial thought was “No, I don’t do relaxing”, before immediately seeing the offer as perhaps the perfect experience I needed to properly learn to de-stress!

I packed my bags and set off to beautiful Wotton House in Dorking for a night. Wotton House boasts a fitness centre, steam room, sauna and restaurant as well as the beautiful grounds in these photos. I had great fun exploring the gardens alongside the occasional pheasant (bonus points if you spotted one in the pictures above!). I think the only downside was the limited veggie/vegan choices – other than that it was a wonderful stay.

In fact, between the super-comfy bed, the ambient atmosphere and the fact that I left my phone turned off in my room for the whole two days, I can’t remember the last time I’ve felt more relaxed. Thank you very much Ocean! I’ve been inspired to make “taking a break” a bit more of a regular occurrence in my life… so watch this space, and let me know your mini-break tips!

Wow, I loved the place and the name speaks loads to me – Ocean (I love the word and oceans too :). The place seems to be really quite relaxing and well done about the mobile – mine is constantly off, but it’s a measure not to go mad sometimes :) I used to be hectic and sometimes I am still like that, but I learned how to relax. I am glad you could relax and maybe now you include it in your daily or maybe weekly plans – not to go to such a grand place, but at last to relax some hours a week with a pleasant activity you like! Hope you have a nice weekend!

That place looks beautiful – sounds like you had a wonderfully relaxing break!

The best thing for me, being an impulsive sort of person, is not to plan anything. Just go with the flow. Take a couple of days, wander around a museum or some woods. Eat somewhere nice or buy chips (not fish – also a vegan!) and walk along a cliff top or beach.

I hear ya on the relaxing front. Same issues I think – I have a full time job and have to plan all the rest of my little projects for the spaces in between, which makes taking time out something that’s always been fraught with guilt. It’s something I’m focusing on this year.

Excellent fringe game, by the way. And skirt/coat combo.

Glad you enjoyed it. I l would like to get my mind off things and take a break in a country house hotel. Nice exterior and garden shots by the way. It looks like a lovely part of rural England.

If anyone wants to check out my blog, your more than welcome to :)

Ahh, looks like you had a wonderful time! The photos are gorgeous, I like the very atmospheric fog in the background. Veggie/vegan food at hotels can be such a nightmare. I usually find the fancier the hotel, the worse the food is xx
