A quick warning that this is a very colourful and photo-heavy post – Notting Hill is just so pretty!
Last Friday was the first really sunny day in London and I planned an absolute winner of a day over in Notting Hill. I tend to picture West London as about as far away as the moon, but actually it only took us about 40 minutes to get there and I spent a lot of the day wondering why I don’t make the “trek” more often. It was such a gorgeous day – people had abandoned indoors completely in favour of sitting on the pavement in the sunshine.
Notting Hill is probably best known to you from the film, the carnival, or Portobello Road antique market. It was the third option that was our destination for the day. As well as the market, Notting Hill is excellent for vintage clothes with brilliant vintage shops on practically every corner. I dragged CB along (as apparently I can no longer write blogs that don’t mention him), and we spent the whole day hunting down treasures and drinking in bars – catching a few bits to eat at Farm Girl and The Rum Kitchen (amazing curry).
Portobello Road is such a picturesque place – even without the markets and cute shops, you’ve got all the retro signage, the tiny tucked away bars and the multicoloured buildings everywhere. I think West London as a whole tends to get a bit of a bad rep for being yummy-mummy Waitrose territory, which definitely does is the case in some areas, but there’s also little pockets like this which have a bit more vibe to them. I’ll be heading back soon, especially if this gorgeous weather continues!
Wow, beautiful photos! I adore the vibrant colors, loved the movie so much. I have lots of friends in the UK and would love to visit some day, I am part English-Welch. The books you took pictures of happen to be some of my favorites. You are lovely! It’s nice to meet you in the blogmosphere. I only began blogging two and a half months ago, for I was afraid it would be too technically difficult, but I am learning.
I am thinking of using a new template and haven’t figured out how to add strings of photos yet, but I will soon! Have a blessed Friday, dear.

Stunning photos. One of my favourite areas of London. Practically grew up there – the parentals had their offices in a couple of locations in Notting Hill YEARS ago (talking early 90s), so my after school time was spent in and around Notting Hill.
Forget how colourful it is – in the past few years before moving, I was only ever there at night! There’s a fantastic Italian restaurant on Portobello road, not far from the Electric Cinema – Saporitalia – the BEST pizzas.

One of my favourite parts of London, which I can say without qualification because I don’t have to live there. It’s so photogenic, and of course the original Rough Trade is nearby!
Excellent photos babe.

I was lucky enough to live there once when I was little, it was so vibrant and your pictures portray that pretty accurately. I wish I could immerse myself into the atmosphere more often! Another great blogpost!
