It was such a beautiful day in Glasgow and I’m so pleased we switched our plans from being indoors at a museum to being out amongst the flowers. The gardens were the perfect size for our morning stroll, although you could easily have spent a whole day there if you just wanted to while the hours away.

I fell in love with this rhododendron bush; like so much of the natural world I always find it difficult to photograph. I always think something cute and manmade like stationery or jewellery looks as lovely in real life as it does in photo form – but something natural, like a sunset or flowers, is just impossible to capture!

I’m not sure if I have a favourite flower but rhododendrons are pretty high up there; they just grow so obnoxiously huge and yet you can start off with tiny pots of them on your windowsill. This beautiful bush at the gardens was about 8-9 foot high! Even with my best editing skills and my prime lens these photos don’t show you the way the light caught the petals, giving the whole thing a radiant peach and cream glow. The pink hues against the bright blue sky were just stunning – it was such a sunny day it looks like the whole thing was shot through a neon lens! I guess words come in where the photos fail…
